"Can You Hear Me Now?"

"Can You Hear Me Now?" by Sherry Turkle: Whether or not we agree with Turkle's assessment of the problems with technology, I think she raises some important issues and questions that we need to ask ourselves as we move ahead. What are some of the most significant questions that you think have been raised as we've discussed articles this semester? Have your ideas or habits changed as a result?

  1. This article made me really think of something and I wanted to pose the question. While it's true that technology provides a great resource for education, is there a good and a bad age to introduce kids to that technology? Or should we introduce them to it as soon as possible?

  3. I really think that it is a bad idea to introduce kids to technology at such a young age. Kids can get addicted to things like Facebook, unless they are on a VERY strict regulation for technology use. Technology is a very nice thing to have and we all have it at the tip of our fingers with our cellphones with internet. My opinion, I don't think it is good to get young kids involved with too much technology.

  4. The question that raises most in my head "Is technology taking it too far?" Clearly this has been a discussion in all the articles, but we have learned that moderation is key. Technology is beginning to replace real social interaction and because of that I think we are more inconsiderate as people. Turkle does raise some good concerns and through reading these articles it makes me want to be more conscious of when and how much I'm using my phone.

  5. I would have to say that technology is only useful to youth and education if they already know how to do things the old fashion way. It's like math, once we can do it long hand and understand it I think it's okay to use the calculator. But when is it time to introduce technology into the young persons lives??

  6. Its hard to believe that in Japan they already have robots to assist with the elderly. It is hard to believe that some of the elderly actually enjoy it because you can't socially interact with a robot. I know that when I get old I don't want to have a robot taking care of me.
