"Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals" by Jib Fowles

Here is the link to Jib Fowles' article, "Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals." This article is quite old, but the appeals still apply to advertisements today. Can you think of one or two ads that correspond with one or two of the appeals listed in this article? Share the ads by linking to a Youtube video, if possible.

  1. This was a well thought out article. I think that all 15 of his basic advertising appeals are often used together. Although he does list a whole bunch of appeals, I don't think he has all the appeals that could possibly be thought of. An example of another appeal would be found in the Mad Men video when they talk about nostalgia. Although I don't think nostalgia is an urge that humans need to take care of, I think that the things associated with nostalgia such as love, and comfort are.

  2. I believe that all of the basic advertising Apeals and very clean and interning to read about from this article. I would have to say that not every aspect is covered 100 percent. We mentioned humor and fear. Those are big elements that can impact a person at the personal level. Overall the article was informative but I would say boy complete

  3. All of these appeals have a way to sell or advertise a certain product. The appeals are ways that companies can get people to buy their product. Depending on the appeals they use in their ads can either gain or lose sales. Not all of these appeals will or can work on everyone and everything.

  4. After learning about the Advertising Appeals every time I watch a commercial now I look for them. It seems that almost every commercial out there has at least 5 or more of the appeals somewhere in the commercial.
