Here is the post for the Weber Writes article, "Correlation Between Sleep Habits and Academic Performance in College Students." What do you think of this article? What does Burton do well, and what could she have done better? Also, do you have experience with attempting to get more sleep while balancing school, work, and home life? Did it work?

  1. I completely agree that if I get up at the same time consistently throughout the week, I feel more energy and feel like I have had a good nights sleep. Even if I'm only getting six hours of sleep if the wake up time stays the same, I feel refreshed for the day.

  2. This was a generally good article. However, I do think that Burton was a bit repetitive, and that being said, it eventually got boring and seemed to drag on. I have never really noticed what time I go to bed and how it affects me, unless it's at two in the morning or something ridiculous. I do know that it is significantly harder throughout the week for me to get out of bed and stay alert throughout the day even if I do get up at the same time.

  3. I agree somewhat with this article that people who get adequate sleep are able to perform better. I also agree that a regular sleep schedule is ideal for health and well being. I am not so sure it significantly changes GPA.College students who are working, have family activites or a social life, and responsibilites beyond the class schedule are always going to be juggling demands and failing to obtain regular sleep. Burton starts off telling us she is a person that has always required sleep. What about people like me who have never slept 8 hours a night? Even as a small child I was too busy to be bothered with sleep. I have always had personal projects, activities with family or friends, or schoolwork that has often kept me up until early morning. I have had a 4.00 GPA on very little sleep and have had some grades that were disasters that were not related to sleep at all. I think there are too many variables to determine that an early class and longer nightime sleep hours effect GPA. I tried the early English class this year and it has not made it any easier to do well or encouraged me to have more regular sleep habits. Those calculus problems still take hours no matter when I start on them.

there is alot of things that go into play. i think that sleep is a tool that can assist people in getting better grades but it doesnt just mean that you can sleep more and you will get better grades. i know plenty of people that dont get any sleep from their job, kids, school and other stuff and they get awesome grades. And i know people that get tons of sleep and couldnt pass a class if they tried. i think sleep is an important tool for college student to hav a healthy life.
